THE COURAGE TO SING CHOIR - MANCHESTER CLICK HERE

OUR CHOIRS are for anyone who wants and loves to sing. You don't need to be able to read music, hold a tune or keep rhythm. The terrified and tone-deaf are welcome!  There’s no audition and you won’t be put on the spot. You will find yourself in a group with people who, perhaps like you, have fears about singing or think they are no good at it.  The emphasis is on fun, lifting our spirits and singing our hearts out, for the love of it!  We will be singing a wide variety of musical styles from pop to rock, musical theatre to African chants.  Like a show choir, we use simple choreography to bring extra energy and impact to our performance - we're talking lifting arms and clapping rather than high kicks and spins though, so don't worry!
The beauty of our size is that we’re big enough for you to feel part of a powerful sound yet small enough so that you don’t feel lost and unimportant. Come along to a session and give it a try – you’ll be given a warm welcome and you won't be made to stand out in any way; you can even mime if you choose!

In these changing times we all face new challenges. It is then so important to keep our spirits and confidence up and our health in tip top shape. Research consistently shows that people who use their creativity and particularly in music those who sing come out higher on the happiness statistics than almost any other social activity. See Alice Wignall’s article in The Guardian, Tuesday 26 August 2008 where she quotes Professor Grenville Hancox of the Sidney De Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health at Canterbury Christ Church University.

"The Sidney De Haan centre undertakes research and provides evidence to support their aim of getting the NHS to provide "singing on prescription." Professor Grenville Hancox, director of music at the university and co-director of the centre, says "Even if a person does it only once a month, it makes an extraordinary difference," ….It's a staggering thing"." "

Alice also quotes Ella Fitzgerald 'The only thing better than singing is more singing,"

The direct health benefits of singing which are well documented like improving posture; increase of Lung capacity; being a stress reliever and improving sleep; clearing sinuses and respiratory tubes; toning facial and stomach muscles; better mental alertness; release of pain-relieving endorphins and boosting your immune system.

In our Choirs we like to concentrate on the emotional, psychological and spiritual benefits too and it is our intention to use our choirs and singing to:

·         Improve our mood

·         Uplift our Spirits

·         Increase our self confidence

·         Sing songs and music that inspire us by the use of harmony, melody, prose, poetry and the inner meaning of words.

·         Appreciate the art of great singers and composers of all musical genres

·         Widen our circle of friends

·         Give us abundance on all levels.

When all is said and done you just have to come along yourself, try it and see.
