Our training is a unique, holistic education approach that combines techniques from the traditional performing arts, the healing arts and psychology. We are interested in helping you create an enjoyable and happy working environment with optimum productivity.

We offer an innovative and tailored programme of courses and workshops that is flexible from an event that lasts for several days, a few hours or even a 45 minute lesson during a lunch break depending on the needs of your group.

The information and training is communicated in a lively, challenging and professional manner and will include some or all of the following; breath work, acting and movement, singing, song writing, voice work, rhythm or drum exercises, visualisation, relaxation techniques, music, discussion, experiential expression techniques, laughing, crying and written exercises. See below for a more in depth description of the three kinds of workshops we offer.

We ensure your needs are met whether you're organising a workshop for a group of senior managers, a reward for a hard-working department, or an ice-breaker session to enable a newly-formed team to get to know each other.

The end result is increased confidence, enthusiasm, vitality and creativity. People live and work with less stress and more energy and by the regular and continued use of these skills productivity and profit will increase.

These cutting edge workshops are interactive workshops and enormously effective as a teambuilding activity. People contact deep levels of joy and vitality and achieve massive leaps in self confidence. If singing is a bit too scary for your staff we offer a performance orientated workshop that does not involve singing at all and if you are very brave and want to achieve big changes quickly within your company then we suggest our Transformation workshop which uses music and psychology for change but does not involve in participants creating the singing or music themselves.

In addition, the workshops have the potential to be delivered to an individual or to a large group depending on the size of the venue.

Here are the three kinds of workshops we can offer you:

  1. A Singing workshop to include vocal training, breath control, etc.
  2. Performance Enhancing Transformation workshops to include techniques to improve diction, self confidence, self esteem, better speaking voice, control of nerves, breath control etc

Specifications
Our courses work well in almost any large room which allows privacy, for example a board room, a large office area or even in your canteen.
Our facilitators bring all the necessary materials and for small groups not much other equipment is necessary. You provide the refreshments.
Any other equipment that may be needed will be specified in the initial consultation.

From 1 to 12 people

  • A large room big enough for 12 people to stand or sit in a circle (approx 20 x 30ft, although smaller would be ok for up to 8 people). The room would need to be relatively sound proofed so as not to disturb other people and be private enough so that non workshop employees cannot see in.
  • Enough chairs for the participants and workshop leaders are also required. One or two tables would also be useful but are not essential.
  • Drinking water and glasses
  • Fresh flowers in the centre of the room
  • A CD player is sometimes applicable
  • Video facilities are sometimes useful although not essential if available especially for executive groups who are preparing to give presentations

From 12 to 30 people Requirements are as above except:

  • The main room needs to be larger with enough space to seat 30 people comfortably with space at the front and back of the room
  • For groups of 30 people, without the use of electric amplification, the natural acoustics of the room need to be quite good. For a room this size, THE COURAGE TO SING would like to view the proposed venue before the contract details are finalised with the organisation
  • For workshops of ½ day or longer, we will need the use of 3 smaller rooms to split into groups

Groups of 30 or more people
Requirements tailor made to your specifications discussed at the initial consultation stage.

Our Trainers

  • For up to 12 people we provide two workshop leaders and will need one assistant. (The assistant(s) should ideally be from the organisation we are working with who will be doing the workshop along side the other participants. Their function is to be a link with the organisation and venue, being able to sort out any logistical problems e.g. more drinking water, photocopies or emergencies. An additional trainee assistant maybe brought in from THE COURAGE TO SING as we feel appropriate.)
  • For groups of 12 up to 15 people we provide three workshop leaders and one assistant from your organisation.
  • For 15 to 20 people we will need four workshop leaders and two assistants from your organisation.
  • For 30 people, we will need five workshop leaders and two assistants

OUR SINGING WORKSHOPS: These follow the COURAGE TO SING syllabus and can be a course of lessons or a one off workshop. Our Beginner Course of 12 weekly sessions (or six weekly sessions for a half-term) is mostly group singing. Normally our courses sessions are for 90 minutes once a week, however our syllabus can be arranged to suit the time you have available and we can even tailor a course to just 45 minutes if required.

All styles of music are used from folk to rock to rap to classical to jazz. We focus on connecting participants to the 'life force energy' within themselves and giving them the tools for better self expression. We include a basic description and understanding of how the voice works, singing exercises and the singing of simple songs which could be anything from a simple African chant or a recent pop song. Please refer to our Beginner course description for more detail.

These courses is a great way of developing your teams as people really have fun on it and get to know each other well.

OUR PERFORMANCE ENHANCING WORKSHOP: For a more performance orientated course we offer our Intermediate Course also 12 weekly sessions (or six weekly sessions for a half-term) which involves solo work. This course is particularly effective for helping your sales team be more effective or for helping individuals develop presentation skills. It can involve singing or not as you feel appropriate.

We include acting techniques to improve delivery, vocal training to improve diction and give participants a better speaking voice; neuro linguistic programming NLP techniques to help you and your staff overcome nerves; psychology to improve self confidence and self esteem; techniques borrowed from meditation, yoga and alternative health practises to help with breath control. Participants on this course often go through amazing transformations which can positively affect all other aspects of their lives as well.

OUR TRANSFORMATION WORKSHOP: This workshop is not for the feint hearted and is particularly good for organisations that are ready for major change. If your company has been hit by the recession and moral is low then this may be the workshop for you. This workshop aims to bring up and release emotions in an easy and gentle way. If your company or organisation is blocked with unexpressed emotions or resentments productivity will drop and so will profits. Our aim is to create an opening through which change to take place.

This workshop uses psychology, leadership trainingand life coaching training with music. Initially participants are asked to talk about what is going on for them and about how they feel and this is followed with role play using music to clear the blocks that have been identified.

Some although not all of the signs you are ready for this workshop are: if everything seems hard work and you or your staff don't look forward to going to work; if there is a sense of apathy amongst your staff; if you have a lot of staff off sick and /or a high incidence of drinking out of hours in your organisation; if your profits are down. A recession is a symptom not the cause of our problems. Your organisation can do well even during a recession.

We recommend this workshop as a two or three day workshop and it works well as a unique management training course for executives.

It has been developed by the Director/Founder of THE COURAGE TO SING, Lorrayn de Peyer who has a degree in Psychology and many years experience supporting people in the development of their creativity by moving through their emotional blocks.
